Americold believes that volunteering activities can have a profound and lasting impact on local communities, creating ripple effects that go far beyond the immediate help provided.
By Americold Associates participating in the company’s Giving Back Program, Americold supports Associates in helping their community which in turn Strengthens Social Bonds, Provides Essential Support to the community, Raises Awareness about critical issues that exist, Boosts Mental Well-being in society and indirectly encourages economic growth by equipping individuals with necessary life skills, support and stability.
🌟 APAC Finance Teams @ OzHarvest, Sydney 🌟
In late August, the APAC Finance & Shared Service Teams had the wonderful opportunity to spend a Day of Giving Back at OzHarvest in Sydney, Australia.
OzHarvest is Australia's leading food rescue organisation, founded in 2004. Their mission is to stop food waste, feed people in need, and protect the planet by championing the value of food.
🌏 OzHarvest collects surplus food from various sources, including supermarkets, cafes, and restaurants, and delivers it directly to charities that help those in need. The organisation aims to halve food waste by 2030 and has expanded its services globally to tackle food waste and hunger issues. OzHarvest also engages in education and advocacy to promote sustainable food practices and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 🌱
Our Americold team, comprising nearly 35 members, threw on aprons and rolled up their sleeves to be part of OzHarvest’s "Cooking for a Cause." Welcomed and guided by the OzHarvest chefs, we created delicious meals from simple salads and couscous to chef-quality gnocchi, risotto, meatballs, and even Fatayer! And all of this from rescued food ingredients discarded by supermarkets. 🍽️
“Our menu included everything from gnocchi to kofta, and it was deeply rewarding knowing that we prepared 264 nutritious meals that went out to registered charities across Greater Sydney. In fact, our efforts helped divert 132 kg of food from landfill and cut down on CO² emissions by the same amount,” shared Terri Whiting, Team Supervisor. 🌟
“It was a great day of team bonding over a day of Giving Back for a great cause. Every meal that was made truly mattered, and it was a wonderful reminder of how a day of giving back can make a real difference. Thanks to everyone who participated, this was a true Americold Proud team effort!” said Nigel Collins, VP – Accounting and Finance APAC. 💪
